Laminotomy

What is a Laminotomy?

Surgical technique that removes pressure from the spinal cord in the neck. Conditions that may need laminoplasty include degenerative changes, arthritis, bone spurs, disc herniations, as well as spinal stenosis.Patients with spinal cord compression and myelopathy would also benefit from this procedure.

This minimally invasive procedure is designed to relieve a compressed nerve in the back of the spinal cord. Doctors will use advanced technology to remove the lamina in your back for this to be successful. Your spine consists of several vertebrae stacked on top of each other. The back of each vertebrae have a small bone, called the lamina which comes together from the back wall of your spinal cord. It is used to treat conditions such as bone spurs and pinched nerve.
